Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British and American sitarist. She also sings. She won the British House of Commons' Shield as the youngest, and first female recipient. In addition to the nine Grammy awards She was also the first musician of Indian origin to perform during the ceremony live. Anoushka is the emerging star of Indian sitar. She is the student and child of Ravi Shankar. She was born 1982 in London. The first few years of her life were spent in London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was at New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. In 1999, she completed her high schooling within Encinitas CA. Anouskha continues to have a bright music and acting career, even though she's only a teenager. Since quite some time, she regularly performs with her father. She released her first self-titled album Anourag in the year 1998. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year following. As she's appeared on many of the biggest stages around across the globe, she's career on stage has been extensive. Her career doesn't just include musical performances. She published Bapi The Heart of My Life, in 2002. This is a picture biographical work that is a tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. Her role was a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Her career continues to grow and she'll continue to achieve great success in the near future. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent a lot of her early years in London and Delhi then moving to California where she went to high school. She started learning to play the guitar when she was nine years old and performed on the sitar for the 75th anniversary of the birth of her father in Delhi just four years after. Anoushka had the opportunity to acquire many valuable experiences as she traveled with her father when he toured the world. This included performing in Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concerts in addition to recording together with George Harrison. She was the only female winner of the House of Commons Shield awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her talent and musical ability as a preeminent musician of in the Asian Arts.
